You are all ready to embroider and the embroidery machine will not recognize the hoop? It keeps saying “Attach Correct Hoop”. What is going on?
Embroidery machines have been smart from day one or at least when machines could accept multiple sizes of embroidery hoops. The embroidery machine developers figured out a safety net to help users from accidentally putting on the wrong size hoop.
Various machine brands have slightly different ways that the machine can detect which size of hoop is on the machine before beginning to embroider. In the end, it saves embroiders from an embroidery catastrophe.
BUT…if users do not tell the machine which hoop they are actually using, the machine will deny them their right to embroider until they fix the problem.
How Does an Embroidery Machine Know Which Hoop it on the Machine?
Hoops have different sizes of notches or brackets to help the machine identify which hoop is attached. If the wrong size of the hoop is attached, the machine will not embroider.
Pfaff and Husqvarna hoops have different sizes of brackets for the machine to help identify the attached hoop as shown here.
Bernina embroidery machines have a different amount of notches or mountains that help the machine recognize the hoop size.
Magnetic Hoop vs Standard Hoop
The most common problem we have seen lately is on the Husqvarna Viking and Pfaff embroidery machines. Users are selecting the hoop with an “M” next to the size. The “M” stands for METAL or MAGNETIC hoop. If using a standard hoop be sure to choose the hoop WITHOUT the “M”.
Husqvarna Viking and Pfaff Have Over 18 Hoop Sizes Available!
Tip for Higher End Embroidery Machine Owners…
Make your own hoop list. The only thing you need to remember is when you purchase a new hoop, you must add it to the “hoop list”. Go into SETTINGS and find where the hoop list is. This video will guide you through setting up your personal hoop list.
Note for Husqvarna Viking Designer Jade 35 and Pfaff Creative 1.5 Embroidery Machines
These machines have an abbreviated hoop list. If a hoop is not on the list, you will not be able to use it.
Sad story…I sold a Husqvarna Viking Jade 35 owner a 170 x 100 hoop and then had to turn around and return it because it was not on the hoop list. I did not know this until I looked at the abbreviated list of hoops on these two machines. Make sure your machine has the hoop listed before making a purchase.
Hoop TIPS For Bernina Owners
Bernina Owners Tip: Hoops must be selected prior to attaching the hoop to the embroidery unit. If the wrong hoop is attached, the machine will not let you into the embroidery area.
Also, if the hoop is not fully attached, meaning it did not have a double click, a Bernina can not read the bumps (think of the hoop understanding Braille) for the machine to recognize which size of hoop is being attached.
