When we asked Bernina for a bigger bobbin, they delivered a JUMBO bobbin. To make a JUMBO bobbin, everything had to be redesigned including the Bernina hook.
Here is a super easy way to FLIP the hook back into the machine.
As a teacher, I have been searching for an easy way to help students insert the new magnetic hook after they have finished oiling their Bernina’s with the new Jumbo Bobbin hook.
Today, I figured out the perfect solution.
Bernina’s sew best when they are clean, and lightly lubricated, just like a high-performance car. Adding a small drop of oil each morning I sew has become a ritual. The machine runs smoothly and quietly and I avoid dealing with an unhappy machine. Win-win.
But sometimes I struggle to get the Bernina jumbo bobbin hook back into the machine. Here are the steps I now take when cleaning and oiling the machine.
After removing the bobbin case and the race cover, the magnetic hook can be removed by pulling on the center spindle.
Remove all lint and fuzz with a brush. Do not blow into the machine.
Reminder…DO NOT USE CANNED AIR!
Add a drop of oil on the outside edge of the hook or in the bobbin hook area of the machine. Do not overoil.
With the black race cover still laying open on the bobbin case door, align the small hole in the hook to the silver dot at the back of the bobbin area.
With a little SPEED, flip both the race cover and the magnetic hook into place. If the holes are aligned correctly, the hook will quickly click and magnetize itself into the correct position.
If the hook does not move and feels locked in place, it is correct. If the hook falls back out or is not completely attached and moves around, try again. (It took me about five tries before it worked 100% of the time!)
Don’t give up! It will work!
Check out how the amazing jumbo Bernina hook was made.
The arrival of the new Bernina hook came with a new size, shape, design, how it comes out, and how it goes in. This also meant totally new bobbins, a new thread cutting mechanism, a newly designed bobbin case, and a sewing machine hook to make the stitch! With its new ginormous size, comes new tricks consumers need to learn about.
