We just finished filming over 3 3/4 hours (230 total minutes) of tutorial videos on the Pfaff Performance 5.2 sewing machine! These 64 videos are guaranteed to help you master every aspect of this sewing machine from beginning to end.

After spending a great deal of time personally getting to know this machine inside and out, I have narrowed down to 5 fabulous secreats about the Pfaff Perforrmance 5.2 sewing machine that stand out as SUPER WOWs in my sewing book.

If you are looking to purchase a new sewing machine, these videos can also help you fully understand the full range of features included in the PFAFF Performance 5.2 model.

Stitch Creator

The Pfaff Stitch Creator allows users to create their own decorative stitches or edit existing decorative stitches. With the extra wide 9mm stitch width, making your own created stitches   will give any project your own personal spark. If you have even fallen in love with a decorative stitch on your friend’s sewing machine, create it yourself in the Pfaff Stitch Creator so you can have it too!

Advanced Needle Position Options

I like to be free to change the needle position of ANY decorative stitch. On the Pfaff Performance 5.2 sewing machine, this feature is right at my finger tips.

Multiple Foot Options for Free Motion Quilting

Depending on the type of free motion quilter you are, the Pfaff Performance 5.2 sewing machine gives each of us the choice using one of three different free motion free and setting that correspond to the selected foot.

Unique Decorative Stitches – Ribbon Stitches, Stacking Stitches and Tapering

Ribbon stitches are specially stitches that start and stop to let the user place and flip the ribbon at just the right place. Create endless accents to any sewing project.

Stacking stitches are stitches in two parts, A and B. Stitches are stitched with two different colors of thread. After part A is stitches, switch thread colors and start back at the beginning for part B.

The tapering function refers to being able to add different angled or tapered beginnings or endings to decorative stitches. This helps the stitch turn corners or fit into tight spaces.

Immediate Tie Off Options

Having the ability to tell the sewing machine exactly when and where to stitch locking stitches is a win in my book. And the fact that once this feature is turned on it stays on as I move from stitch to stitch.

BONUS – Straight Stitch Throat Plate INCLUDED!

This is a BIG deal! Not having to purchase this item separately is a big PLUS. A straight stitch stitch throat plate provides even more perfection with straight stitching, piecing a quilt top together and free motion quilting. The stitch accuracy and precision is truly appreciated. AND it is censored. That means that when this plate is attached, the sewing machine knows NOT to let you pick a stitch that would break a needle.

In conclusion, the Pfaff Performance 5.2 Sewing Machine is full of features, easy to use and gives many sewers a good amount of growing room. Check out this machine and other Pfaff sewing machines at your local Pfaff dealer.

  8. Heather Rowswell says:

I’ve been trying to quilt with Westalee rulers on my Piaf Performance 5.2 and am having a terrible time. It skips stitches and then the thread breaks. I’m using the foot that comes with the rulers. I talked to someone at the shop where I bought the machine and he said the problem might be the automatic feed dog drop when I put it in free motion position. Or the machine doesn’t like the Westalee foot. He said to try not putting the machine in free motion position and quilt with the feed dogs up but I still is doing the same thing..Have you tried quilting with rulers on this machine and if so what am I doing wrong. I could love this machine if I can figure this out!

    1. Sara says:

      Hi Heather,

I am a fan of Topstitch needles and a straight stitch throat plate for successful ruler work. What thread are you using?

      1. Heather Rowswell says:

I’ve used different needles and thread from monofilament, aurafil And bottom line. The machine still skips stirches and then the thread breaks. Have you quilted with rulers on this machine? Is her a setting that I’m missing?

  9. Margaret says:

      Hi Margaret,

  10. Margaret says:

What free motion setting do I use for ruler work on Pfaff expression 4.0 and pfaff5.2 I have both machines and not sure of the setting .thank you so much.

    1. Sara says:

      Hi Margaret,

You will want to set your Pfaff machines for the free motion floating setting for using the ruler work foot.

      1. Margaret kent says:

Sara, would the free motion floating setting be the same as sensormatic . ? Looking forward to your answer thank you.

          Hi Margaret,

These two settings are different. You can touch the HELP button or read the manual for the exact difference.

Sara, is it possible to attach embroidery module to Pfaff 5.2?

    1. Sara says:

      Hi Brinda,

Sorry, the Pfaff 5.2 is only a sewing machine. If you want to do embroidery, may we recommend either the Pfaff creative 3.0, Pfaff creative 4.5, or the Pfaff creative icon.

Here are links to our videos on these models:

Sara I checked the manual for pfaff 5.2. No info on what setting ruler foot should be used on.. afraid of damaging sewing machine if I use on wrong setting. Looking forward to your answer.

    1. Sara says:

      Hi Margaret,

Great question! You will use the “Floating Foot” or R foot option for your ruler work foot on the Pfaff performance 5.2 sewing machine.
