Introducing the Husqvarna Viking Quilt Binder!

Take a 1 3/4″ bias strip and instantly bind a quilt! With a few tips from a binding expert, you are guaranteed to tackle binding with JOY instead of DREAD. Learn how to get started, turn corners, and professionally end the binding with Sara’s Husqvarna Viking Quilt Binder video.

What is the Finished Binding Size?

The finished size of binding is 7/16″ (almost 1/2″).

What Size of Strip Do I Cut?

Cut the bias strip 1 3/4″ wide. Be exact. If you own an AccuQuilt GO! Cutting System purchase the AccuQuilt 1 3/4″ Strip Die. Learn how to cut bias strips using an AccuQuilt cutter here:

Which Models Does the Husqvarna Viking Quilt Binder Fit On?

The Husqvarna Viking Quilt Binder will fit EPIC, Brilliance, Diamond, Ruby, Topaz, Sapphire and Opal series machines.

Throat Plate

The Husqvarna Viking Quilt Binder attaches to the machine’s throat plate in the far right two vertical holes shown in the photo below. The newer Husqvarna Viking sewing machine models, like the Husqvarna Viking EPIC and the Brilliance 80 and 75 models are already equipped with this new throat plate. If you do not have the required throat plate, contact your local Husqvarna Viking retailer to purchase both the throat plate and the Husqvarna Viking Quilt Binder.

What Comes with the Husqvarna Viking Quilt Binder?

The Husqvarna Viking Quilt Binder includes the Quilt Binder, foot to use with the Interchangeable Dual Feed Foot, binder plate, and screws.

Binding a Curve

The walking foot is NOT designed to go around curves. For binding a curve with the Husqvarna Viking Quilt Binder, purchase separately the Mega Piping Foot. It allows for the binding to bend with the curve of the fabric. Adjust the needle position to make sure both the top and bottom layers of the bias binding is caught.

Optional Foot – Mega Piping Foot

The Mega Piping Foot is perfect for inserting thick home dec piping into seams and on edges for a tailored finish. The trim is sewn between the two layers of fabric in one step. You can also create your own piping for a custom finish. This foot can be snapped on to the right or the left of the needle which makes it possible to both create and sew the piping into the seam and to beautifully topstitch along the piping.

And now it is the perfect accessory to the Husqvarna Viking Quilt Binder!

The Glue Stick is Your Friend

Having a glue stick handy can help assist in creating the perfect corner while using the Husqvarna Viking Quilt Binder. It can is also used to create the perfect ending.

At the end, cut the bias strip and fold the end and glue it. The glue will hold the fold in place as the final inches of bias fabric glides into the Husqvarna Viking Quilt Binder.

Stiletto or Seam Ripper

You will need something long and sharp to assist with the inserting of the bias strip into the Husqvarna Viking Quilt Binder as well as assisting with guiding all the layers smoothly around the entire quilt. Read here what my favorite tool is for the job here:

Thicker Battings

If the quilt sandwich is thicker than normal because of batting choice or just lots of seams, use a serger set for a traditional 4-thread overlock stitch to help compact those thick edges.

Running Low on Binding Fabric?

We have all done it…we get to the end of the quilt and realized we have used some of the fabric that was supposed to be saved for the binding. Using a Quilt Binder takes LESS fabric. Strips are cut 1 3/4” instead of 2 1/2”.

Where to Buy?

Visit your local Husqvarna Viking retailer to confirm the Quilt Binder will fit your Husqvarna Viking sewing machine and if you need a new throat plate.

Is the Husqvarna Viking Quilt Binder Similar to the Pfaff Quilt Binder?

Yes, the Pfaff Quilt Binder includes a different foot.

  1. Karen McGuire says:

I have a Pfaff, Quilt Expression 4.0 Will this binder attachment work with my machine?

    1. Sara says:

      Hi Karen,

You will want to purchase the Pfaff Quilt Binder because it comes with a different foot included in the box. You will also need the updated throat plate with the two holes for the Pfaff 4.0. The binder itself works the exact same way. Enjoy!

  2. Carlyn Holmes says:

I have a HV H class 600E sewing/embroidery machine that I use for sewing only. I would like to purchased the binder foot for this machine. Do you carry it? Thanks

    1. Sara says:

      Hi Carlyn,

Sorry, the quilt binder does not fit the Viking H class 600E machine.

Sara, I’ve tried all day to work with my new Jade 35 and I’m stuck. the does not read the usb stick, it’s stuck on the accessories info. What am I doing wrong? Help please. I’m not new to machine embroidery as I had a Singer Quattro Pro for several years and I traded it on the Jade. I really need help. thanks in advance,
    Dee Machtolff

    1. Sara says:

      Hi Dolores,

Do make sure you are only loading .VP3 formated designs to the Jade USB stick. If you have done this, have your dealer check the USB stick and see if it is working correctly or if you need a new one.

  5. Cassie Love says:

Been searching and searching for this binding attachment for my Topaz 50!!! Where can I find one?????

    1. Sara says:

      Hi Cassie,

Your local Husqvarna Viking has the new Viking Quilt Binders.

  6. Libby says:

I have the epic2. I don’t think I can use the attached walking foot (from my designer royale) because of the built in walking foot on my machine. So, what is the best foot to use with the epic2? I do not have the mega piping foot, but I have smaller piping feet….would they work best?
Thank you. Your videos are very helpful.😊

    1. Sara says:

Try your regular A foot with the built-in dual feed. This video was made before the Epic 2 arrived.

  7. Christine Duren says:

I have the Jade 20. Will the Quilt Binder Foot fit, or do I need a new plate?

    1. Sara says:

      Hi Christine,

Sorry, the Viking Quilt binder does not fit the Jade sewing machine. The first group of machines it fits on is the Viking Opal line.

  8. Kathy K says:

Thinking about this possibility as I’m tackling my 3rd quilt..a queen size! I shudder to think about binding it! Must the fabric be cut on the bias, though? I understand the benefits of bias tape but fabric is getting scarce for this …and during a pandemic???? …..

    1. Sara says:

      Hi Kathy,

If you plan to use a bias binder, yes, use bias cut fabric for the binding.

  9. Julie Miller says:

What is the part # for the throat plate with the double holes?

    1. Sara says:

      Hi Julie,

Your local Husqvarna Viking retailer can help you with your throat plate purchase.

  10. JoAnn DeCesar says:

Have you developed a series on using the Epic 2? There are so many features and my local quilt shop is somewhat helpful, but closed now of course, but they are learning as well. I would like a course that addresses all the great things you can do with this machine.

    1. Sara says:

      Hi JoAnn,

We have two courses that will help you master your Husqvarna Viking EPIC 2. We recommend the Husqvarna Viking Stitching Cosmos online course to get you using all those amazing stitches and accessory feet that are available for the EPIC 2 sewing machine.

We also recommend the Embroidery Essentials online course to master the embroidery side of your beautiful machine.

Each of these courses will work for most any model of Viking sewing and embroidery machines. I hope you will give them a try!

  11. Mary Raukko says:

Hi! I have a HV Designer SEL. Will the new quilt binder attachment work on my machine? Thanks!

  12. Jackie says:

    Hello Sara,
Will they be coming out with a wider binder?

    1. Sara says:

      Hi Jackie,

Probably not anytime soon. This is the size the quilters were looking for.

  13. Valerie H says:

With the correct throat plate will the quilt binder work on the Sapphire 930

    1. Sara says:

  14. Denise says:

Sara, I love your videos and repeatedly watch them as needed. I have a question. What are the two screws used for on top of the binder bias foot used for? Adjustments? Or are they just there to hold the foot together? Thank you

    1. Sara says:

      Hi Denise,

Thank you for finding our videos. I believe the two screws on the top of the Husqvarna Viking bias binder are to hold it together.

      Happy Sewing,

      Sara Snuggerud

  15. Regina says:

I have an Epic 2 and I have the quilt binder but I also bought the quilt binding foot for IDF system 920568096. Does this foot work with the quilt binder or should I stick with the mega piping foot? Thank you so much, I have been searching and did not find a lot of info on the quilt binding foot for IDF Thank you so much for your amazing videos:).

    1. Sara says:

      Hi Regina,

The Quilt Binder foot with IDF is designed to work with this accessory. For the Husqvarna Viking machines without the IDF, the mega piping foot is best.

      Happy Binding,

  16. Amy says:

What am I doing wrong that the bottom fabric isn’t catching. I have it sandwich right between binding.

  17. Lillian Frace says:

I have a Designer SE. Besides buying the plate with 2 holes for the quilt binder will I need something else to fit my SE
